Tapo Term of Use
Tapo Terms of Use
Revised: February 7, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the TP-Link Systems Inc. mobile and web-based applications (the "Apps") where these Terms are posted. The Apps provide access to various services and features including artificial intelligence-powered tools (such as AI assistants, video summarization, device automation, control functions, and natural language interfaces) (“AI Services”), integrations with TP-Link smart home devices, voice control features, third-party APIs, and customer support tools such as warranty claims and technical assistance. Together, the Apps, the AI Services, and any other features or functionality made available through the Apps are referred to in these Terms as the “Services”.
For purposes of these Terms, "you" refers to any individual who accesses or uses the Services. "We", "us" or "TP-Link" refers to TP-Link Systems Inc.
By using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Services.
The Services are provided by TP-Link Systems Inc., located at 5 Peters Canyon Road, Irvine, California 92606, United States ("TP-Link”).
Note: These Terms govern your use of the Services only. They do not apply to your purchase or your use of any TP-Link physical products, which are subject to separate product-specific terms of use or license agreements provided with those products or otherwise made available through your TP-Link account.
1. Legal Capacity.
The Services are intended for individuals who are at least 18 years old and capable of entering into legally binding contracts. By using the Services, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements. If you are accessing or using the Services on behalf of an organization, company, or other legal entity, you represent and warrant that you are authorized to bind that entity to these Terms. The Services are provided for personal, non-commercial use only, unless otherwise agreed in a separate written agreement with TP-Link. You agree to use the Services only as permitted by applicable law and not in any jurisdiction where use of the Services is prohibited.
2. Modifications to Terms.
TP-Link reserves the right to modify, update, or replace these Terms at any time, in its sole discretion. When we make any such changes, we will provide notice by posting the updated Terms within the Services, updating the "Effective Date", and where required, by sending notice to the email address associated with your account. For certain material changes, TP-Link may require affirmative acknowledgement before continued use of the Services. Any changes will take effect on the date specified in the updated Terms and will apply prospectively from that date. Your continued access or use of the Services after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must discontinue your use of the Services. You are responsible for reviewing the Terms periodically and for ensuring that your contact information associated with your account remains accurate.
3. Account Registration.
To access our Services or use certain features, you may be required to create an account. By registering for an account, you represent and warrant that: (a) all information you provide is accurate and complete, and (b) you will keep your account information current at all times. TP-Link reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or terminate any account at any time, in its sole discretion, including for fraud, inactivity, or violations of these Terms.
4. Fees and Payment.
Certain features of the Services may be offered on a paid or subscription basis. You are not required to purchase or subscribe to any paid features, but if you choose to do so, you agree to pay all applicable fees as described. By purchasing or subscribing to a paid feature, you authorize TP-Link, or its third-party payment processor, to charge your selected payment method for all applicable fees on a recurring or one-time basis, as specified.
Fees may be billed in advance and are non-refundable, unless otherwise stated in writing or required by applicable law. TP-Link may modify its pricing or introduce new fees with at least ten (10) days' advance notice, which may be provided by email or by posting within the Services. Your continued use of any paid features following notice of a pricing change constitutes your acceptance of the new fees. If you purchase subscriptions through a third-party platform, that platform's payment terms, billing cycles, and refund policies will apply, and TP-Link is not responsible for managing or processing those payments.
5. Subscription Plans and Trials.
TP-Link offers multiple subscription plans with varying feature sets and storage capabilities. Each plan may include access to specific features, such as extended cloud video storage, AI-powered functionality, or multi-device support, as further described below. Subscription features and availability may differ by plan, platform, or location, and are subject to change at any time.
Subscription Tiers. TP-Link currently offers three subscription plan tiers in the United States:
- Tapo Cloud: Includes cloud storage of event clips for 30 days and supports up to 2 devices per account.
- Tapo Cloud Advanced: Includes cloud storage for 180 days and supports unlimited devices within a single home (as defined below).
- Tapo Cloud Advanced AI: Includes all features of Tapo Cloud Advanced, plus access to AI-Powered features, including AI chat/Aireal, AI video summaries, AI-powered search, and facial recognition, where permitted by law.
Free Trial. Eligible users may be offered a 30-day trial. Billing authorization with auto-renew enabled is required at the start of trial. Unless canceled before the trial ends, the free trial will automatically convert to a paid subscription plan, and the applicable subscription fee will be charged. Trial availability and eligibility vary by platform. Free trials are only available to first-time users. Users who have previously subscribed or participated in a free trial (under any account or identity) are not eligible.
TP-Link reserves the right to change, suspend, or terminate trial availability at any time and for any reason. Users may cancel a trial at any time before it converts to a paid subscription plan. Cancellation must be completed through the same platform used to activate the trial. In the event of cancellation, access will continue until the end of the trial period, unless otherwise restricted by the applicable platform.
Plan Changes.
- Upgrades. When you switch to a higher-tier subscription plan (for example, Cloud to Advanced or Advanced to Advanced AI), the new subscription plan takes effect immediately. You will be charged the full price of the new subscription plan at the time of the upgrade. Refunds or credits for unused time on your previous subscription plan will be handled in accordance with the policies of the platform used to purchase the subscription.
- Downgrades. The effect of switching to a lower-tier subscription plan or disabling auto-renewal depends on the platform. If you purchased your subscription plan through Apple or Google, the downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. No refunds will be issued for unused time when downgrading. If you purchased your subscription plan through Stripe or PayPal, the downgrade may take effect immediately, and refunds or credits may be issued based on platform capabilities.
- Cancellation. If you cancel your subscription, you will no longer be billed for the subscription plan, but you are not guaranteed a refund. Refunds, if any, are governed by the policies of the platform used to purchase the subscription.
Billing and Payments. Fees and payment for subscription plans are governed by Section 4 (Fees and Payment). Please refer to that section for details on billing cycles, refunds, and payment responsibilities.
Cloud Data Retention. While a subscription is active, video clips and other cloud data will be retained based on the plan's storage period (30 days or 180 days). Upon expiration or cancellation of a subscription, a 14-day grace period begins, during which users may continue to access, view, and download their content. During the grace period, users may download video clips to a local device subject to a 200-clip maximum. TP-Link reserves the right to adjust download limits or impose additional limits such as file size restrictions, at any time, with or without notice, except where reasonable notice is required by applicable law. After the grace period, all associated cloud data will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. This deletion applies only to data associated with the expired subscription plan. If you have other active subscriptions linked to your account, cloud data associated with those subscription plans.
Fair Use and One Home Policy. Certain subscription plans (Tapo Cloud Advanced and Tapo Cloud Advanced AI) allow connection of an unlimited number of devices within one home. "Unlimited" means all eligible devices operating within a single home. A "home" is defined as a single household, a single residence, or a single physical location where a group of devices are connected to the same primary Wi-Fi network or IP address. All devices covered under an unlimited plan are expected to operate on the same network. Use of a single subscription across multiple households, properties, or geographically separate locations is considered a violation of this policy.
TP-Link may use automated methods to detect potential misuse, including reviewing device IP addresses and usage patterns. Detection may occur during device onboarding or during periodic system checks. If misuse is detected, you may be notified and asked to correct the issue. Continued or repeated violations may result in enforcement actions, including unenrollment of certain devices from your subscription, feature restrictions, or subscription cancellation. Enforcement methods may vary depending on the platform used to purchase the subscription.
This policy is intended to prevent abuse, protect service integrity and ensure fair access for all users. TP-Link reserves the right to interpret and enforce this policy in its discretion, consistent with applicable platform policies and laws.
6. Changes to the Services.
TP-Link reserves the right to modify, update, suspend, restrict access to or discontinue any aspect of the Services, in whole or in part, either temporarily or permanently, at any time and without liability. This includes, without limitation, introducing new features, imposing limits on certain functionality, or removing existing features. Some changes to the Services may affect the functionality or compatibility of the Services with certain devices, software, or third-party services. TP-Link will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of any material changes that may significantly affect your use of the Services, where practicable. If you do not agree to any changes to the Services, your sole remedy is to stop using the Services.

a. Mandatory Arbitration and Class Action Waiver.
To the fullest extent permissible by law, with the exception of disputes pertaining to TP-Link’s intellectual property rights and certain statutory claims that, pursuant to law, are not arbitrable, any dispute of any kind between you and TP-Link arising under or relating to these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration pursuant to the JAMS Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures on an individual basis with no class relief. The arbitrator shall be a retired judge or justice of any California state or federal court with substantial experience in the internet industry and shall follow California substantive law in adjudicating the dispute, except that this Section shall be construed as a “written agreement to arbitrate” pursuant to the Federal Arbitration Act (“FAA”). You and we agree that we intend that this Section satisfies the “writing” requirement of the FAA. The hearing shall be conducted in the county that encompasses the billing address you have provided to TP-Link. For any claim in which you seek U.S. $10,000.00 or less, you shall have the choice as to whether the hearing is conducted in person, by telephone, or instead the arbitrator may decide the dispute without a hearing. For those claims that the arbitrator determines are not frivolous, TP-Link shall pay the costs and fees of JAMS and the arbitrator. TP-Link agrees that it will not seek reimbursement from you for its costs and fees incurred by it in the arbitration, unless the arbitrator determines those claims are frivolous. AGREEMENT TO THESE TERMS CONSTITUTES AN AGREEMENT TO PURSUE YOUR CLAIM ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND A WAIVER OF THE ABILITY TO PURSUE YOUR CLAIM IN A CLASS ACTION.
b. Notice
If you have a dispute that our customer service representatives cannot resolve and you wish to pursue arbitration, you must first complete the following steps before filing an arbitration claim:
(1) You must first send a notice of dispute to the following email address: tapo.legal@tp-link.com. The notice must include: your name, phone number, email address associated with your account, listing of product(s) subject to your dispute, a description of the problem, any documents you want TP-Link to consider, and a description of the relief you seek from TP-Link;
(2) Upon receipt of your notice of dispute, including all required fields, you and TP-Link agree to negotiate in good faith for 60 days to try to resolve the dispute;
(3) If either side requests a settlement conference during this period, then you and TP-Link agree to schedule that conference by phone or videoconference and to personally participate in it. Either side can bring counsel, but the conference must be individualized to our dispute. For claims covered by the notice of dispute, any statute of limitations will be tolled from the date the notice is received until the later of (i) 60 days, or (ii) after a timely requested settlement conference is completed.
For avoidance of doubt, a court can enjoin the filing or prosecution of an arbitration in breach of these pre-arbitration dispute resolution requirements. If either party seeks an injunction from a court on this basis, you and TP-Link agree that the arbitration (and any obligation to pay arbitration fees) will be stayed until that request is resolved and all appeals exhausted.
c. Arbitration Process and Procedure
If the parties do not reach an agreed upon solution within sixty (60) days from the original notice of dispute, then either party may initiate binding arbitration as the sole means to resolve claims, subject to these Terms as described in section (a) Mandatory Arbitration and Class Action Waiver.
